Encino, Los Angeles – In a heart-stopping incident early Thursday morning, burglars broke into an occupied home, nearly encountering a babysitter and two young children. The unsettling event unfolded just after midnight at a residence located north of Ventura Boulevard, near Libbet and Moorpark.
According to police reports, the babysitter was abruptly awakened by the sound of breaking glass. Realizing the danger, she swiftly locked herself and the children, aged 2 and 4, in a room before calling 911. The burglars, who had shattered a back sliding glass door to gain entry, proceeded to ransack the master bedroom on the second floor.
The noise made by the babysitter as she secured the children alerted the intruders to their presence, causing them to flee the scene. Police believe the burglars initially thought the house was empty, which likely prompted their hasty retreat. It remains uncertain whether any valuables were stolen during the break-in.
Security camera footage is yet to be reviewed, and authorities have not released any suspect descriptions. However, it is believed that the burglary was carried out by a crew of two to four individuals, possibly with a getaway driver waiting nearby.
Despite the terrifying ordeal, the babysitter and the children were unharmed. The Los Angeles Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
