Masked Intruders Impersonating LAPD Flee When Homeowner Confronts Them With a Gun

A late-night encounter turned into a harrowing standoff for a Studio City homeowner who found himself face-to-face with three masked intruders — while his two young children slept upstairs.

The break-in happened last Wednesday night. According to a report by KNBC-TV, the masked men entered the home by smashing through a double-pane glass door using a specialized device. What made the incident even more disturbing was that, once inside, the intruders reportedly yelled “LAPD,” posing as law enforcement in an apparent attempt to confuse or delay the homeowner’s response.

But the ruse didn’t work.

“I think that’s what kind of triggered my senses,” the homeowner told KNBC. Already alert and prepared for trouble, he armed himself and confronted the men as they began ascending the stairs.

Security footage showed the trio casing the property before the break-in, checking windows and even a dog door. “Three men covered basically head to toe,” the homeowner said. “Windbreaker hoodies; only their eyes are visible.”

As soon as the homeowner came into view — armed and ready to defend his home — the intruders turned and fled without a word. “I peered down the stairs and saw two men coming up the stairs and just immediately charged after them, ready to take them on,” he said. “Thankfully, they ran — because the last thing I wanted to do was start shooting people in my house.”

No shots were fired, and the suspects escaped before police arrived. The homeowner, who asked not to be identified, believes his house may have been under surveillance prior to the break-in. “We were out of town for a few days, and the way they reacted, they definitely thought the house was empty,” he noted. “I think they are just getting that brazen. You kind of have to be ready.”

While no one was hurt in the incident, the confrontation is a chilling reminder of how quickly a situation can escalate — and how critical awareness and preparedness can be in moments of crisis.
