Federal authorities have dismantled a sophisticated burglary ring composed of Chilean nationals who targeted the homes of high-profile professional athletes. The gang, accused of orchestrating a series of high-stakes heists, specifically sought out properties belonging to NFL and NBA stars, striking while the players were away competing in games.
A High-Profile Crime Spree
The investigation, spanning multiple states, revealed that the burglars meticulously selected their targets. They sought out luxury homes adjacent to green spaces, golf courses, and secluded areas—locations that offered them a discreet approach. Breaking in through rear windows or glass doors, often on the second floor, they executed their crimes with precision, focusing on high-end jewelry, designer accessories, and other luxury items, while leaving behind bulkier valuables.
Among the notable victims were Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his teammate, tight end Travis Kelce, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, and NBA stars Luka Doncic and Mike Conley Jr. Reports indicate that an unnamed Tampa Bay Buccaneers player, Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis, and an unidentified Memphis Grizzlies player were also targeted.
The Evidence That Led to Their Arrest
One of the most incriminating pieces of evidence surfaced in connection with the burglary at Joe Burrow’s home. Despite having a security team monitoring the property while Burrow was away for a game, the thieves managed to infiltrate his residence, making off with nearly $300,000 in stolen goods. Brazenly, they later took photos of themselves wearing Burrow’s stolen jewelry, including pieces featuring his jersey number, "JB9."
Investigators obtained video footage from a camera positioned along a wooded trail near Burrow’s house. The footage captured a suspect carrying what appeared to be stolen luggage, further solidifying the case against the group.
