The 20-year-old gunman, who fired multiple times inside a grocery store, was also found dead. At least two people were wounded.
Two people were shot and killed and two others were wounded at a shopping center in Bend, Ore., on Sunday evening, prompting law enforcement agencies to flood the area and enter a grocery store, where officers found the gunman dead from a gunshot wound, the authorities said.
Officers were still investigating a motive as of Monday afternoon. They said the shooter’s social media posts were also under investigation.
The victims were Glenn Edward Bennett, 84, a Bend resident who was shot while shopping near the front of the store, and Donald Ray Surrett Jr., 66, an employee of the grocery store. Mr. Surrett tried to disarm the shooter, said Sheila Miller, a spokeswoman for the Bend Police Department.
“Mr. Surrett acted heroically during this terrible incident,” she said. At least two other people were injured, she said.
